Todd Ciche is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at Michigan State University. He began performing undergraduate research in the lab of Jerry Ensign in the Department of Bacteriology at University of Wisconsin-Madison. He continued working with Jerry investigating the insect pathogenic symbiosis of Photorhabdus luminescens and Heterorhabditis bacteriophora nematodes and was Jerry’s last doctoral student. Then he moved to Pacific Grove, CA at Hopkins Marine Station of Stanford University where he investigated the reproductive symbionts of squid under the guidance of developmental biologist, David Epel. Next he joined the laboratory of Caenorhabditis elegans scientist, Paul Sternberg, at California Institute of Technology where he learned nematode genetics, genomics and developmental biology that he adapted to H. bacteriophora. His recent work is focused on understanding how animal-bacterial symbioses develop using the simple and tractable nematode-bacteria model. |
